The Vision

Antelope Run Image Our vision is to use innovative, nature-based technologies to alleviate the threat of flood damage. reduce erosion and restore the stream to its native environment. In addition we will compliment this with the creation of educational workshops and recreational opportunities along Antelope Run. Components of the project include:

1. The replacement of the concrete culvert at Valley Blvd. It is to be replaced by a bridge that will house two large box structures. This new system has been built to handle 1% flows and it is to be fully funded by the City of Tehachapi.

2. Construction of several drop structures built from natural rock and buffered by brush layering to diffuse and slow water flow, mitigating erosion.

3. Stream debris clearance and habitat restoration will be conducted between drop structures. This will include but not be limited to collecting, hauling and dumping refuse. abatement of exotic, invasive plant species and the planting of native flora.

4. Adjusting of easement rights to include a multi-use trail bordering the stream is a continuing effort by Tehachapi Cummings County Water District.

5. Holding a series of educational meetings designed to raise awareness about problems and solutions along Antelope Run and how each resident can help.

6. Involvement of community volunteers in design workshops. stream restoration events and long term maintenance.

7. Development and execution of a multi-agency long-term management plan that will include 'Adopt-a Stream" programs, continued habitat restoration, trail maintenance, and periodic erosion surveys etc.

8. Creation of signage along Antelope Run and web sites to build public awareness about flood control, erosion mitigation and the use of innovative technologies that work with nature to solve these problems.
